MnDOT “Mega Maintenance” project wraps up this weekend with eastbound Interstate 694 closure for repairs from Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center to Snelling Avenue in Arden HIlls

ROSEVILLE, Minn. —More than six miles of eastbound Interstate 694 will close this weekend between Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center and Snelling Avenue in Arden Hills. Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will close the eastbound interstate for intensive maintenance activities through 5 a.m. Mon, Aug. 4. All ramps to and from the interstate along eastbound I-694 will close starting at 7 p.m. Friday and there will also be no access to the eastbound interstate from cross streets in the project area.

At the same time, the ramps from northbound and southbound I-35W to eastbound I-694 will close and drivers are encouraged to use Highway 36 and I-35E to reach eastbound I-694. Access from southbound I-35W and the eastbound Highway 10 diagonal to Snelling Avenue and the eastbound interstate will remain open in Arden Hills.

The weekend closure will allow multiple MnDOT maintenance crews to:

  • inspect and repair bridge decks,
  • Repair and restripe pavement,
  • clean and repair storm sewer drainage structures,
  • remove vegetation,
  • repair and replace lighting and
  • remove graffiti on bridges and walls.

In addition, crews surveyed drainage structures, bridges and signage and took pavement cores and soil samples to prepare for a future project currently planned in 2032.

During the eastbound I-694 closure, motorists can detour north on Highway 169, east on Highway 610 and Highway 10 and then south on I-35W to the Highway 10 diagonal to reach the eastbound interstate. Drivers may also travel east on I-94 from the west end of the closure to reach Minneapolis.

We appreciate your patience while we make these repairs and improvements.
